–Platform design

2010 to 2013

During this time it was all about adaptive design and consistency, and I was fortunate enough to be part of designing multiple major platforms for mobile and pc. Ranging from creating the very first commercial version of Android to the more current Tizen OS.

Tizen OS

The more recent platform work is done for Samsung with Tizen OS that runs on their TV’s, smart watches and low tier phones/tablets. I art directed visual & motion language including reference apps along with internal and external guidelines. Personalisation and vector graphics were key visual design principles that also pushed the developers to create a platform that could support it.

Blackberry10 OS

Even though it is not live anymore, this was Blackberry’s big push to stay in the game of mobile operating systems. I was lead for a ground-up redesign of apps, components, icons, and UI style for the new platform in an era where ‘realistic look’ was still a thing - and the competition was very fierce.

Android

I joined a team of only 7 designers creating the new Android mobile operating system from Google back in 2007. My role was art director and I was very much involved in the whole process from idea creation to finalising visuals and creating guidelines - in only 9 months.

Ubuntu

For Canonical and their PC operating system Ubuntu I was lead in creating new innovative concepts for the OS along with creating a new visual look and feel.
